The approach for undertaking design of the animation began with storyboarding to determine the narrative and various scenes. The chosen creative direction led viewers on a journey driving abroad that details the need for an IDP in different scenarios. The primary aim of the animation was to entice viewers to pick up their IDP to ensure that they stay legal when driving abroad and be prepared in the event of unexpected situations.
Illustrations
Once the storyboards had been approved, work began on creating visually capturing illustrations for each of the scenes. A large amount of work went into creating characters, designing colour palettes and developing detailed and eye-capturing scenes. The story was broken down by scenes to tell the story of holidaymakers travelling to the airport, collecting their rental and the problems that could arise without an IDP to hand.
Animation
The illustrations were combined with the voiceover to bring viewers on an immersive journey. The illustrations were cleverly animated to keep people engaged, and the voiceover was used to instruct. The final animation was very well received by the Australian Automobile Association and was since developed for other international motoring authorities.
